JANET HAYBALL – SCIENCE TO ART
Janet is a Geordie who has recently retired to her native Newcastle-upon-Tyne after 19 years in North-west Scotland. She has a degree in Zoology from Leeds University and a PhD in Fish Parasitology from Birmingham University. She didn’t make a career of this however, and spent some time working in Human Resources with Shell International in London before moving North.
While in Scotland, a period of self-employment included running a small bed and breakfast, dabbling with silk painting and card making as well as running a market stall selling old postcards and prints. She only took up Art in a more serious, although non-commercial, way since returning to Newcastle. Entirely self-taught (apart from an Art O-level many years ago!), Janet joined a local Art Club and has experimented with different media before settling on pastels as her favoured medium and now uses both soft and oil pastels.
Janet’s subjects tend to be very varied, including landscapes, people and animals, but she sees the interest in a picture in the light, colour and movement rather than the subject itself.
Shown below are examples of Janet's work. Each of these mounted original pastels can be purchased from us at the price shown. Please allow about two weeks for delivery. Cheques should be made available to Gordon Harrison.
