John Mackenzie, 5th Earl of Cromartie
John is well known as the Chief of the Clan Mackenzie and host of the Strathpeffer Highland Games at his ancestral home at Castle Leod in Strathpeffer. Perhaps less well known however are his various interests in mountaineering, astronomy, geology and art.
It is the latter long standing interest that we feature on this page. John works both in watercolours and oils featuring Scottish landscapes scenes, mainly of Scotland's West Highlands. His artworks capture the grandeur and ruggedness of these landscapes, often with attention drawn to geological features derived from his interest in geology.
The artworks shown here are just a few examples of John's art to which more are expected to be added in future. To view any of the artworks in a larger size (depending on the device you are using) just click on any of the images displayed below.
